Allow me to preface this article by saying although I listen to a lot of music I didn't hear it all. And I certainly hope you disagree with my choices here. I'm no critic, but an artist and more importantly always been a fan. I'm not very good at keeping up my blog but I figured this deserved a post... so dig it! I think these 5 albums would enhance your quality of life greatly if you owned them. 2011 was a great year for music... Here's a big reason why....

5.) Has-lo- "In Case I don't Make it"-
Now I'm pretty sure I was up on Has-lo before most if not all folks reading this. We shared spots in an MTVU competition almost 6 years ago (yikes!) And once my crew was knocked out I rooted for Has-lo. Has's cadence and technical style struck me right away back then, and finding out his project was garnering such a buzz this year I was excited to check it out. I wasn't disappointed in the least as Has delivers one of the most focused and cohesive projects of 2011. No guest features and completely self-produced, ICIDMI has a brooding tone of a young man coming to terms with just about everything. Has examines his alienation from the rest of the world, his retreat within the comforts of hip-hop music and just why shit is the way it is. The best thing about this project is as effortless as Has flows from song to song you can hear that years went into this. This project wasn't banged out on an arbritrary deadline with collaborations traded via email. This was the bubbling of a young man who spent years honing his craft only to emerge in the forefront of the indy hip-hop scene in 2011. If you ask me… it's about time.
Peep 'Storm Clouds" my pick for best cut: Has-Lo - "Storm Clouds"

4.) Shabazz Palaces- "Black Up"
An 11th hour submission because well… quite frankly I slept pretty hard on his record. Fellow artists and notoriously hard to please friends Nasa and Core Rhythm were discussing their high praise for this record when I decided to cop out of principle. The reinvention of Ish or Butterfly from the seminal 90s crew Digable Planets (along with Tendai Maraire), Shabazz is about as unique a record you will hear all year. Shifty, and progressive backdrops weave in and out as Ish drops science in carefully placed darts throughout the album. However you want to brand this album is fine with me, whether it's psychedelic, progressive or abstract. But the word that comes to my mind is, important. Think Cannibal Ox- Cold Vein, it didn't ever reach mainstream acclaim but those that "got it" really "got it" and if you're like me it's an album you'll go back to for the rest of your life. It's difficult to properly rank this record as I feel like I might make this # 1 if I revise this list in 5 years but it'll stand at # 4 for now. This will fly under a lot of radars as it doesn't come readily digestible. You'll probably need some time, some repitition and a solid foundation of hip-hop knowledge to get all you should from this record. There's a good amount of mystery surrounding the project which only adds to the intrigue but 20 years from now, when critics look back to unearth gems, you can already be in on the discovery.
Check out "Swerve" Shabazz Palaces- "Swerve..."

3.) Danny Brown- "XXX"-
Now I was a bit ahead of the curve on the Danny Brown train. I first heard him on one of the stand-out cuts from the J Dilla "Jay Stay Paid" project a few years back and was drawn to his unique voice and hilarious punchlines. After that I checked out "the Hybrid" and knew right away he was going to be somewhat of a big deal. The Detroit spitter with the missing front teeth, skinny jeans and the foulest mouth since ODB has become one of the more compelling and polarizing figures in the indy hip-hop world.
So for me personally stakes were a bit high with this record
Expectations were not only met with XXX, they were crushed like Adderall on the counter in his kitchen. Spacey and sparse productions lay the groundwork for Brown's cadence bending laments about drugs, groupies and the pain underneath it all. At first glance (which is all Brown detractors usually ever give) he seems like a one-trick pony, banking off shock value and the new "swag rap" movement. But the reality is that's extremely false. Brown is a MC with a pedigree. He's unafraid to admit his flaws and basically is telling you exactly what he is and if that angers you, it couldn't bother him less. XXX is free, but make no mistake it's one of the strongest albums of the year from an artist destined for Rock-stardom or he'll at least die trying.
My fav. cut "30" Danny Brown- "30"

2.) The Roots- "undun"
I may be biased… My favorite MC is Black Thought and the Roots are one of my favorite musical acts in any genre but this is a great record. Sure the immense (and often exaggerated) critical praises have put the album under an intense microscope, but isn't an act like the Roots already under one? However you feel about the legendary Philly representatives, I feel as if you can take something away from this record. Questlove acts like a football coach surrounding Thought with the right personnel to enhance his abilities and help showcase theirs. Greg Porn (a personal fav.), Truck North, Big K.R.I.T. and Phonte all play integral roles on the album illustrating brilliantly the wayward path of protagonist Redford Stevens. However, the star of the show may actually be Dice Raw. He comes through in a big way with a few timeless hooks, while not letting up at all when given the stage to simply rap. I'm not sure this is the most "realized" or "cohesive" Roots album to date but it certainly is a fantastic addition to the canon and all the proof in the world fans need to know the recent fame hasn't altered their ability in the slightest. Oh, and it even produced my favorite quote of 2011: "I've lost a lot of sleep to dreams." So much truth to that.
Feel good jam of the record... "Kool On" The Roots- "Kool On"
And the #1 record of the year.... The most absolute purchase-worthy, inspiring, well-crafted work of the year goes to....

1.) Open Mike Eagle- "Rappers will Die of Natural Causes."
I first heard Mike's name when I did a little spirit journey on the West Coast. Oh and a brief intoxicated SXSW meeting (if you've been there then you know) last year but still it takes a few repetitions for me to pay attention to a name and that finally clicked when Willie Green showed me he was behind the beat of Mike's next single "Nightmares." I think I bumped the song/video throughout all of my journey through Europe, showing drifters and weird Aussie drunks the video so they could be in on the discovery.
What's great about Mike's album is although he enlists a myriad of producers the album stands as a complete cohesive sound and thought. Mike is a MC who can actually sing, but the way he uses this is what's so unique. Drifting in and out of melodies with songs at times that defy traditional song arrangement, Mike can make serious subject matter sound charming and conversational while making a mundane task like washing dishes into a party jam. The topics range from being unapologetically introverted with "Nobody Nose," (finally we have an anthem!) to having his blackness questioned for preferring to bump Cannibal Ox over whatever was cracking at the time in "NH2." Mike also dares to question the mortality of our favorite rappers. Just think about the statement: "Rappers will Die of Natural Causes," Big Daddy Kane and Rakim were almost god-like to those who grew with the culture, but now they most likely have very mortal problems like health care and keeping in touch with their children and their children's children. There isn't going to be this heroic fate for our aging idols. The point is, this is a fantastic snapshot of an excellant artist who put his best foot forward in 2011 and created the best album I heard this year. I honestly think this is one of the most original yet easy to digest rap records in a couple years. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
Open Mike w. Willie Green on the boards: Open Mike Eagle- "Nightmares"
There it is... Run, don't walk to your computers and purchase these records, or if they're in the local record store buy a physical copy!
Notice how I didn't stroke my own ego and add "PremRock & Willie Green" to the list? That's nice right? Buy that too though... I'm almost out of cereal.

New Album from PREMROCK & Willie Green, get it from iTunes.

New York emcee PremRock and producer Willie Green have combined forces for a full length album, set for a Sept. 28th release date. The frequent collaborators have inked a deal with Isolated Wax Records for the self-titled album, which will boast guest features including C-Rayz Walz, Soul Khan, Open Mike Eagle and Has-Lo.
The two met at a New York City open mic in 2009 and worked together to record, mix and master Prem's debut album "the build." The record went on to gain considerable buzz in New York City as well as overseas as Prem completed a self-booked tour throughout 17 cities in Europe from London to Istanbul the Spring of 2011.
As for Green, few can match Willie's prolific output. The former standout drummer and Berklee College of Music graduate traded in his sticks for a drum machine, all the while turning in an impressive discography and laundry list of production credits over the past few years. Whether crafting a concept instrumental album such as "...Of Heroes and Villains" or working with both knowns and unknowns on production features, Willie indelibly leaves his mark on a listener's ear.
Prem and Green will be following the release with an international tour, with US dates beginning late September and European dates in October. The duo provides a live stage show that will capture the energy of the record, with Prem on vocals and Green playing the beats live via drum machine.

Peace ladies and gentlemen,
I am alive, well and chilling in a small town just outside of Grenoble called Renault. My gracious hosts are French producer, Aneeway Jones and his wife Fatima.
They have been so incredibly accommodating I couldn't ask for more.
We've done a lot already in just a short amount of time including: working on songs together, having local graff artists dedicate an entire wall to us, conduct an interview with a local journalist and talk music over decent whisky and French beers.
Today while my hosts are at work I will attempt to workout, possibly shave my head, finish writing my pledges handwritten letters, email a few hundred people and climb that damn mountain I keep staring at from my window (quietly mocking me as if I won't do it)
Big shouts go out to L.I.F.E. Long who introduced the two of us and since it's been quite a remarkable experience.
The trip here however was an event of its own. Ten hour flight to Moscow, two hour layover, three hour flight to Paris and then a two and half hour train ride to Grenoble. (Which I got off at the wrong stop and had to redirect Aneeway about an hour North of where he was supposed to meet me... Ugh)
But no luggage issues, no mistaken identity arrests, and all-around respect for the beard.
I am also happy to report that I will be dropping some new music for all my folk while on the road here beginning with the "Sum is Greater" Part 4, which is formatted just a bit different but not at all short of being just as awesome. The artwork will be photography from my new host and new friend here in France, Aneeway Jones. Pretty excited about that.
I will be leaving for Paris tomorrow afternoon to stay with Matthieu of the Submass Crew and get ready for our big show the following night. I am pretty excited to perform in front of a completely foreign crowd and anxious to connect and find common ground with them. I got a trick up my sleeve for my French brethren, i'll let you all know if it works or not.
There's more to tell but I'll be posting for real throughout this trip, and I will also be contributing to the website Brooklyn Bodega to report my findings of being an indy artist on the move.
In Paris I will also be deciding where I will go before Brussels, and the beautiful thing is I could wherever... Open Mic in Sweden? If the price is right. Get 3 sheets to the wind in Copenhagen? Hey Tom Waits wrote a song about it. Berlin? Stay in Paris? Beautiful problem to have.
Love your life ya'll.
Take some risks.

Prem
SXSW...
On Wednesday the 16th at 8AM I left my apartment after working my last day of day-job drudgery and beginning a joyous 75 day hiatus. I stayed up late the night before drinking an El- Presidente 22 oz, eating Associated brand Tostitos, while staring at a map of Europe. I hadn't had a single moment to be excited about my impending trip to Austin. I realized it was getting late and the music I was listening to was depressing and for whatever reason I couldn't shake the thoughts of my current crush, so I swigged the rest of my Dominican brew and smiled knowing Ill be SXSW bound when I wake up. I packed quasi-lightly and headed out in the rain to the L train to meet with my co-conspirator for the trip's duration, Jesse Abraham. We hopped a cab to La Guardia and set off for our 2nd go-round with the Texas tour de force that is South by South West. For the uninitiated, SX is a whirling dervish of indy rock, hip-hop, electronic, metal, drunkenness, media, fashion and national tastemakers who descend upon the fine town of Austin for a week of sheer creativity and mayhem. Four days later I emerged from Austin walking a little bit taller than before.
SXSW is always a good indicator of acts of the rise as well as established acts maintaining their relevance.
Walking down 6th st. you see everything from fall-down drunk frat bros, to struggling bands hustling their gear up the street, to an artist as big as Yelawolf simply skateboarding through town. This is a very normal day in SXSW.
If you are there to strictly network, and be on your professional grind there are a lot of temptations. Being around a constant swarm of available vices can grind down on a lesser man or woman, and if you are there to do just that, that is fine too.
But SX also has all the necessary tools for you to emerge successful in your plans.
Calling this year a success for myself would be an understatement. I couldn't have planned a better time spent.
Jesse Abraham and myself decided to extend our collaborative brainchild known as "Skill or be Skilled" to the unknown waters of Austin. When people say they did something "on the fly" well, they never seen anything "on the fly" like this. Literally just receiving confirmation on the venue (fantastic space btw) we sent out emails just before take off from LaGuardia, and constructed loose plans and set lists in our snug American Airlines seats.
By the time we landed in Dallas Ft. Worth for our connecting flight we had confirmation from just about every artist. Throwing in Willie Green's efforts to recruit artists like LuckyIam and Eagle Nebula we somehow constructed an entire SXSW showcase lineup while being thousands of miles in the air. (Willie Green later created a dope flyer for the event while we were charging our phones in the Convention Center, picking up Wi-fi just long enough to send FB msgs, email blasts and tweets.) Then we landed in Austin got settled in our motel room and began the week that we certainly wouldn't forget.
I could bore you with details of somehow getting to the VIP of Fader Fort for free drinks and getting to watch one of the most in demand SXSW rappers Danny Brown from feet away. Or ending up in an abandoned Mall party when I leaned over to Willie Green and said "This DJ's killin' it who is it?" "Ummm that's A-Trak."
Or just hours after landing walking backstage with J-Live & YC the Cynic to watch the Artifacts and a DJ Premier rocked party. Word. But I won't, i'll stick to the more important issues.
If you've never thrown a showcase, I can't explain to you the stress involved in throwing a showcase. Sound, making sure the artists are happy, making sure the artists are there, Sound, making sure people are there, are people coming? Jesse where are the people? Sound, Where's the sound guy?, where is artist ___?
This is just a taste of it. And then take yourself completely out of your comfort zone, timezone, and state and you get the pre-show anxiety of "Skill of be Skilled Austin."
Thankfully we had the vet and Homeboy Sandman's trusted ear in DJ Sosa to help us start the show and Willie Green as a very firm safety net who would takeover when Sosa left to spin for Sands at a bigger affair.
The venue and space was a fantastic outdoor setup which had traffic from all over the streets of Austin and people who never heard of any of us came by and spent their entire Friday night watching us and the acts we put together rock out.
Eagle Nebula, LuckyIAm, Shinobi Ninja, We Stole the Show, Mo Danger, Willie Green, Crosby, and Rebel Diaz all deserve great credit for rocking a completely neutral crowd with great success. As WSTS was winding down their set (they and Willie Green handled a sound malfunction very well btw) Jesse and I decided since they had told us 12AM was shut down time we would pretty much sacrifice our performances for the greater good of the show. Dissapointing thought, but hey the night was a phenomenal success already let's just hang our hats on that. But the acts wrapped up and the people kept coming in. Then we realized that the sound guy, a magnificent middle-aged music junkie named "Griper" was a HUGE fan of what was going on and gave Jesse and I the go-ahead to keep rocking this crowd that clearly did not want to leave. So rock on, we did.
Performing an "on the fly" interchangeable set with Willie Green live on beats we rocked for over an hour and a half. With a crowd who simply didn't want us to stop, a soundguy who kept giving us a thumbs up from afar and a bartender who in between slinging drinks was slam-dancing to our music. The night had gone from a success to magical. All three of us were rock stars.
After the show finally wrapped up we talked to people who wanted nothing more than to have our business cards excited to show their friends back home, girls who wanted know where our next show was and Griper the soundguy telling us we were the most professional and talented rap show he's ever been apart of. Wow, thanks Griper.
Needless to say we were hyped.
The rest of the trip seemed to be icing on the cake. Other highlights included watching the continued rise of our boy YC the Cynic basically bodying every bill he was thrown on, rocking Crosby and Rebel Diaz's Hip hop Howl and walking about three Texas sized miles back the motel every night because cabs ain't like New York in Austin.
We packed up on Sunday morning back to the airport looking at each other like "did all that really just happen?" Yes, yes it did. We did something that seemed almost an impossibility just a year ago. Which has me thinking.... What could possibly happen next year?
SXSW… Rock, rock on.

R.I.P Hunter S. Thompson.
Six years ago today the eccentric writer, self-proclaimed Doctor of Journalism and drug machine Hunter S. Thompson wrote his own closing chapter with a gunshot to the head. It was no secret Thompson had trouble dealing with reality, but suicide is never a foregone conclusion until it happens. We could dwell on his checkered past of exorbitant drug-use and misdeeds or we could focus on his contributions to writing. Either way the man became a cult figure in both the world of literature and the drug culture.
I first became infatuated with Hunter S. when I was a 15 year-old just discovering the allure of psychedelics and thought him some sort of LSD infused prophet. After Johnny Depp Hollywoodized (word?) him he became much more ubiquitous.
I often thought his connection to the drug culture cheapened his contributions to the world of writing. College dorms everywhere had the "Fear and Loathing" posters and claimed to know what he stood for, but he actually had a bigger purpose. I read a bunch of his stuff and became enamored. The day he killed himself I was sitting in community college class after being removed from my University for being on the wrong side of the law too many times in one semester. I remember being sad but not surprised. He idolized Hemingway who patented that whole shotgun-to-the-face fate and being a drugged-out maniac it was only a matter of time before he took the next step.
I often wonder why so many of my idols end up doing themselves in. Perhaps it's the soul of an artist who can't quite ever find satisfaction in their art or personal lives coupled with being weak and unstable in the first place. Or maybe its a stubborn ego so big they can't let a figure like God decide how they end it. Either way its tragic, but the only thing we can do is learn from it.
I consider the Gonzo king to be a large personal influence on myself and my writing and while I wish he didn't kill himself six years ago today I understand why he did. His influence will live on and truly I hope his ending won't be mimicked.
I leave you with my favorite quote of all -time from the Doctor himself:
"Walk tall, kick ass, learn to speak Arabic, love music and never forget you come from a long line of truth seekers, lovers and warriors."
True Indeed.

So yesterday marked the final game in the illustrious and recently tumultuous career of Brett Favre. The aw-shucks gun-slinger from Mississppi hung up the spurs for good this time, after getting pinanta'd like 8 weeks in a row.
I am trying to think of an athlete who wore out his welcome in the hearts of sports fans the way Favre did. His egocentric ways revealed themselves and then he found himself caught in a whirlwind of bizarre legal hullabaloo.
Rule 1 of sexting Brett: the recipient has to WANT these pics.
You played yourself there old man.
But more importantly, his long drawn out press conferences of "I'm finished" "I think this is it" manipulating coverage and fanbases, he is such a jerkoff.
Then this year finally his skills diminished to the point where Minnesota was a trainwreck and even God spoke by collapsing the Metrodome (conceivably his version of Sexting with Favre).
Well on behalf of all dedicated football fans: hit the goddamn road old man.
I'm sick of teary eyed press conferences and Middle age hack commentator's hard-on for the guy. "He's just a kid out there look at em huck the ball around!"
Problem is, he has no clue what to do after football, he's completely screwed in that dept. That's why he never hung it up.
Sorry Favre fans, this isn't just an innocent southern ball player who doesn't know any better. He's a scumbag who ruined the good name of Wrangler.
See ya Brett!!!
Defending the honor of Wrangler Jeans,
Prem

I spent my first New Year's Eve in 13 years clear-minded and completely sober last night. It had a lot to do with being scheduled the next morning at 7AM for work but also a little to do with the upcoming year and my grandiose plans. I watched "Forrest Gump" and mapped out a few ideas, and aside from a few texts post-midnight I didn't even know the ball had dropped. It was quasi-depressing yet liberating.
Now I believe I am a positive person, despite my routine trips to the doldrums of artistic despair, I believe in myself. And this year is no exception. In fact, this year I begin to take chances and risks which can help achieve great reward. I am leaving stability in a lot of ways in order to freely pursue what I can truly be.
I must remain murky in my details due to a lot of deciding factors yet to be determined, but soon all of my supporters, friends and fam will know the deal, and hopefully be very excited.
I am not big on New Year's resolutions, I have kind of been focused on mine for a few months now. But I do like the idea of a fresh calendar year and a chance to realign priorities. In no sense am I getting on some morality kick and giving up all my vices, but I am limiting them, for a higher purpose has manifested itself in the past few months and I owe that vision my full attention at least till I see it through.
New Year's resolution is more blog posts! Fo realzys though guys. Ima be updating the ish out of you.
I hope everyone had a fantastic time, got drunk and tongue-kissed a stranger or significant other. 2011 kids, bring that shit on.
Yours in rhyme,
Prem
Sum is Greater.
Ever since art became a driving force in human culture, artists would work together to achieve greater ideas. These efforts or collaborations led to some of the finest achievements we have had the pleasure of beholding. Collaborative art has held a special place in the history of music's progression. From Jazz to Blues musicians fed off each other in order to achieve the best results.
There is certainly a treasure in discovering and creating work alone, but there is also a level of beauty that can be attained only through working together.
When minds come together that have mutual talent and more importantly mutual respect for one another, truly magical things can and will happen.
This is the basis for my project.
I believe that through collaborative efforts artists can find out more about themselves, while achieving something great together. With "Sum is Greater" I aim to bridge together fanbases and connect artists through a mutual respect and passion for the art we’re creating.
The crux of the project will feature myself accompanied by two different MCs every installment. The producer will change every installment as well as an artist who will create an original piece based on the song.
In total five artists will be involved in each song which will drop once a month, every month for 10 months. The song will be available for free download for exactly one month until the next song replaces it. This is to keep somewhat of an exclusivity to each work. When all the projects are complete it will be presented as an album with some additional tracks.
The first installment is a song entitled "Be the Change." Featuring Brooklyn MC Warren Britt, the Queens spitter SoSoon and Beatsmith Willie Green. Original artwork will be presented by Reema Mitra which will accompany the project on the download.
I am proud to be presenting such an ambitious project and promise to all supporters and listeners they will be glad they checked for it.
Yours in Rhyme,
Prem

I am very pleased to announce my recent collaboration with POW, which helped bring to life my song "the writer's block."
Produced by Willie Green it was one of, if not my favorite record off "the build."
After linking up with Crosby to discuss the direction the video, we quickly got on the same page about location, concepts and visuals and soon the thang was ready for shooting.
Special shouts to VR Photo and her daughter Allana for their vital contributions to the shoot, and also to Willie Green for coming through on the bright Sunday to make his necessary cameo.
I had a great time shooting and honestly cannot wait to present it to the world.
Peace

Charlie Sheen gets coked up, harasses hooker and trashes hotel room.
In other news: Earth= Round, Sky= Blue, GhostFace= Awesome.
Status Mother-fing quo.

So the best receiver of my generation was just traded, then waived, then claimed off waivers in less than a month. Incredible.
The real losers here are the Minnesota Vikings who gave up a 3rd rounder. Brad Childress is such a douche.
Always been a Randy fan, a mercurial Allen Iverson-like talent who can out jump the jumpiest and out-run the fastest.
Touchdown machine who gives DBs fits, a decoy so big he made Nate Burleson look good enough to get a huge contract and hands with natural stick-um sewn in.
So what's the deal???
Oh yea he's a total dick. Like a cursing out pimple-faced complimentary buffet attendants, smacking traffic cops, street brawl having, press conference holding sized dick.
Oh well, it'll be worth it for Jeff Fisher and Nashville if he pushes them to the AFC title. And since the Titans play in the AFC
GO RANDY!
L.I.F.E. Long has been one of the most influential people I've been around the last two years. He's just an individual that embodies the spirit of hip-hop 100%.
He just dropped the collaborative record with Black Sparx called "The Waiting Game" which is a dope record, but for now enjoy the joint "Lash Out" featuring another dope Emcee and good dude, Elohem Star.

I have teamed up with the good folks at Good Conduct, a Brooklyn based clothing line on the rise.
Aside from doing photo shoots, i'll be helping promote their brand any way I can. I am doing this not only for the benefit of getting some fresh clothes out of the deal but
also I dig their vision and they are good people. You can peep all their product right here
GOOD CONDUCT
My man Jesse Abraham drops his 2nd collaboration with NoiseMaker Media. "Little Bit of Everything" is a burst of creativity and hella-freshly entertaining. Enjoy.

By most accounts in the everyday man's vision I am an idiot. A dreamer who has forfeited all the practical ways of life for one unstable fantastic goal. Maybe it's immortality, maybe it's recognition or maybe I just want to be remembered. Now after 4 beers they will tell you how much they envy your free-spirited lifestyle until they sober up and realize being an independent artist is about as glamourous as custodial work. But the thing is..........
I could have been anything.
I grew up wanting to be an archeologist and I could tell you the fundamental differences between the Tyrannosaurus Rex and the Allosaur at the age of 5.(Allosaur had 3 fingers, T Rex had 2…. Dumb idiots) And I would become insulted if you didn't know the difference between the Mesozoic and Paleozoic ages.
Basically I was a smart kid.
My parents had big plans for me, and it even included skipping me ahead to be in 2nd grade with my sister Rachel (EWWWW!) she wasn't too pleased and actually all parties involved decided it may be better to just chill on that idea and let me mature at my own pace.
My how things changed.
It wasn't long after when hip-hop invaded my mind and body like a relentless strand of awesome. I received the Wu-Tang "36 chambers" on cassette at the ripe ole age of 9, and things would never quite be the same.
I traded in dinosaur facts for Gza quotes and Bible scripture for "The Chronic."
I was a 4'5'' walking encyclopedia of hip-hop quotes and basketball stats (One of the few 9 year-olds ever who knew both that Shawn Kemp went to Trinity Valley Community College because Kentucky kicked him off the team and that Snoop Dogg's government name was Calvin Broadus.)
As a youth it became an obsession. The seeds were planted for a young b-boy who although appears cynical and jaded now has still never lost faith in the art he fell for.
I never thought about being a hip-hop artist until maybe I was 13. Even then Eminem hadn't come out and I didn't know much about 3rd Bass so I always thought white rappers were simply a novelty. Nevertheless that spark bled into a life-long pursuit which has left a trail of fractured relationships, unpaid bills, humbling rejections and painful life lessons.
I've chased this damn dragon for 12 years now, and at the age of 25 I stand at a crossroad. Pack it up, learn a trade, maybe climb the ranks of my current employment, become a happy little brick in the wall…. Or ….. no…. Chase harder, lose sleep, dream big, write down everything, talk to myself, dance in the rain, embrace my insane vision as the only vision thats real, and recognize that I never had another choice. So which way to go??
Well for better or worse this is what it is.
I could have been anything…..
So this has to work out.
Thank you visiting my site, I promise to work around the clock to keep you posted on the adventures of myself and my peers as best that I can. I love my supporters with all that I have, you mean the world to me.
Stay tuned.....
Peace and Love,
Prem
